When facing job loss or a reduction in hours, workers need to know their options ahead of time to prevent loss of health coverage. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) provides for premium reductions and additional election opportunities for health benefits under the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985 (COBRA). Per Title III, Section 3001(B), (v) & (vi), the newly enacted law requires employers to "display in a prominent manner" notice of COBRA continuation coverage, enrollment opportunities and premium reduction rights. Employers are required to offer COBRA coverage and notify their employees of such coverage.
