Effective January 1, 2005

California has made Sexual Harassment Training mandatory for employers who have 50 or more employees on their payroll. According to this new requirement, each employer in that category must provide 2 hours of interactive training and education to all supervisory employees within one year of January 1, 2005, unless the employer has provided the equivalent sexual harassment training and education to employees after January 1, 2003.

It also requires 2 hours of interactive training and education in the subject every two years after the initial programs are conducted after January 1, 2006.

This requirement is considered a minimum threshold for training and education. Employers may provide training and education beyond that required by the statute to prevent and correct sexual harassment and discrimination.
