Corrects the blatently biased nature of last year's SB 796, known as the "Sue Your Boss" bill. The result is a law that will protect employees and employers alike.

Mandates all employers with 50 or more employeesprovide 2 hours of training and education to all supervisory employees within one year of January 1, 2005. Sexual harassment prevention training is required for all supervisory employees once every two years after January 1, 2006.

(AB 2690); Asby. Hancock

Urgent measure to define "volunteer" for the purpose of wage law. Pay is not required for people who are individuals "performing work for civic, charitable, or humanitarian reasons for a public agency or corporation qualified under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code as a tax-exempt organization, without promise, expectation, or receipt of any compensation for work performed."

Effective 2/20/2004 as Chapter 330.

Requires all health care service plans provide coverage for asthma treatment.

An attempt to conform state unemployment insurance law to recent federal changes.

Unemployment Insurance

Provides that any employee receiving a $500 per day civil penalty award against the employer for a WARN Act violation may also receive UI benefits.

Provides significant changes in Workers' Compensation Insurance system.

Authorizes specified city attorneys to pursue workers' compensation fraud cases.
